Japan, Checking on Its Oldest, Finds Many Gone

Interesting that many of the world oldest people are not alive, missing and have not been sighted for decades. Maybe turning 100 is not that important in Japan but surely turning 110 would class as a photo at least in a local paper or some publicity. No-one even cared to go looking for them, or their nonexistence was very carefully hidden so social security payments would still be paid. (more…)

We went the Melbourne Museum today.  I had not been before and often we attend these places interstate or overseas and forget to see our own.

I loved the old museum with all its machinery that you pushed the button and see it work.  I felt more at home once I saw Phar Lap and all the sheets of bugs, beetles and butterflies. I especially enjoyed the Old Melbourne Section.

In an article in the Wall Street Journal, these are the percentages that are now classed as basic needs for Baby Bloomers: Weekend getaways, 46%; professional hair color/cut, 43%; children, grandchildren’s education, 42%; dining out, 38%; domestic travel, 35%; ordering takeout, 34%; and movies, 30%.

Today I sat in David Jones in the city and had lunch.   It was a shared table and a young male and female sat opposite.  It was impossible not to hear their conversation.   Maybe we just looked like a little old couple, but when one works as a cameraman in television and the other blogs, tweets and facebooks people should stop and think before they have work conversations and chat about the executives in Telecom who sit around and play games all day and what is happening over the coming months.

For April 15th : Happy birthday to my friend who I met though this blog. She is the lovely young lady who put the ‘Sexy Legs’ congratulations in the newspaper. I know that it isn’t ‘the real thing’ but this is the closest I could do to getting ‘Sexy Legs’ to wish you happy birthday. I am glad he doesn’t really sound like this and has a great voice. (more…)

So as a Baby Boomer we have been busy filling our super funds so we can survive in old age because the younger generations will not be able to afford us or baby sitting the grandchildren so the parents can go to work and learn all this new technology….well I would take a few of the younger generation on when it comes to this mobile Web.  I have been known to be checking my twitter, facebook and blogs on the mobile at the hairdressers but I have had a period of my life when I haven’t had a phone attached to my ear and I find it more enjoyable not to attached to it all of the time.

Not sure if slow to join or know a better life without it. (more…)
